Allied Glazing System supports innovative academy project in Hounslow

Allied Glazing Systems has started work on a new site in Isleworth, West London, playing an important role in  the build of Bolder Academy, a brand new secondary school accommodating over 1000 pupils from Year 7 to Sixth Form. The project is receiving support from Sky, providing a number of unique facilities and experiences to students. Bolder Academy pupils will also have access to one of the most thriving and innovative entertainment businesses in Europe, demonstrating how business and educators can work successfully in partnership.

The main contractor, Bowmer + Kirkland, secured a place on the government’s £8bn framework for the construction of new schools in England and the Allied Glazing Systems team is delighted to have worked with B+K on a number of projects for the Department for Education.

The building has been carefully designed, taking a pragmatic approach to respecting the local context of the Metropolitan Open Land and the process adopted has the potential to form the template for many more secondary school builds in the future. Areas of the building will be open for the community to utilise, such as the Sports Community Hub Zone and have therefore been designed to allow for separate entrances for students, visitors and the wider community.

Sustainability has been key to creating an energy efficient school building with an Energy Performance Certificate score of ‘A’. Also, a BREAAM Pre-Assessment revealed current achievable rating for the scheme is ‘Excellent’, and the building would also achieve a 38.18% reduction in regulated CO₂ emissions.

The Allied Glazing Systems team will be designing, fabricating, and installing windows, doors and curtain walling to the new building, creating a vibrant learning space for the students. Bowmer & Kirkland have a partnership agreement with Senior Architectural Systems and our design team specified Pure windows, SF52 curtain walling and SPW501 commercial doors, from the Senior range, due to their exceptional thermal performance, stylish and sleek appearance, and ease of fabrication. The elevated design also allows good levels of natural daylight into the building so the choice of windows was key to utilising natural energy sources.
