Enhanced healthcare facility extension with Illingworth and Gregory in Bedale
The Allied Glazing Systems team has started work on site at Glebe House Surgery in Bedale, North Yorkshire for Illingworth & Gregory. The works involve installing doors, windows and curtain walling as part of a 500 square metre extension and a reconfiguration of the existing building to provide an enhanced healthcare facility, with up to the minute virus control measures.
Once completed, the new integrated healthcare hub designed by Alessandro Caruso Architects (ACA) will be home to a range of community services, including midwifery, speech and language therapy and district nursing, which will be transferred from Bedale Health Clinic, providing an improved experience for patients.

The start of the project was delayed due to the Coronavirus lockdown which provided ACA with time to modify the designs to ensure that the building was going to be a safe space, in line with new government guidelines on social distancing and surface contact. The design already featured multiple entrance points which make one-way-systems possible, but ACA were also able to upgrade all ironmongery with anti-microbial coatings to assist with infection control measures.
The Allied Glazing Systems team designed and fabricated all aspects of the glazing and are due on site in January – February 2021 to install Senior Architectural Systems SF52 curtain wall, SPW600e windows and SPW501 doors chosen by the client for their visual appeal, thermal insulation properties, quality of finish and value for money.
The extension is due to be completed by the end of Summer 2021.
