Aflex Hose, GMI Construction

SECTORS: Manufacturing

THE BRIEF

Aflex Hose has been inventing, developing and manufacturing a range of PTFE lined flexible hose products for more than 40 years, and its new factory expansion plans were designed specifically to accommodate its bespoke processes.

By developing land near to the existing location in Huddersfield, Aflex Hose was able to unite its five manufacturing, office and product development facilities onto one site to help maintain the highly skilled workforce and boost production capacity by 70%.

With the new three-story head office building being client facing, it was important for the design to be attractive externally, whilst also allowing as much light inside as possible.

WHAT WE DELIVERED

Working with Senior Architectural Systems’ products, we installed SPW501 entrance doors and SF52 Curtain Walling and Windows to the Head Office Building and Technical Centre. These products were chosen in the design process due to their enhanced thermal performance to exceed current building regulations, helping to reduce the building’s carbon footprint. They are also 100% recyclable.

ABOVE AND BEYOND

During the construction process and move-in period, it was important to Aflex Hose that its manufacturing and supply process was not disrupted and that productivity was not adversely affected. Working closely with our customer and Principle Contractor on the project, GMI Construction, our team reported into and worked collaboratively with the Project Manager on site to ensure that our work installing the curtain walling, doors and windows would not interfere with other works or create any delays to the overall build.

Some of the double glazed units specified for the project weighed in excess of 80kg each this necessitated the use of a specialist crane on site to lift and install. Our team worked quickly and efficiently to fit the windows, reducing impact on other works on site and in line with the overall programme.

Maintaining a good relationship and keeping communication lines open with our customer, the Principle Contractor GMI Construction, was vital to the success of this project. We were also proud to support initiatives on site which built relationships with the local community, such as donating much needed items to The Welcome Centre food bank charity, for local families who are in need of  help.
